About Us

Waterfront Dinning

The Club was first called the Victorian Launch Club founded in 1904, this was later changed to the Victorian Motor Boat Club.

The club met for many years at the Port Phillip Club Hotel, until new premises were acquired at a site near the current Ferry Terminal at Princes Bridge Wharf.

By 1937 the Club was formally given permission to use the prefix 'Royal' for services rendered.

The club is made up of boating enthusiasts whether they cruise, race in NavRallys or enjoy the water, we have a strong social culture and a commitment to the local boating community.

We currently have 250 members, some of which own their own boats, but, its not a condition of membership. If you're interested in boating and want to see more of the bay then you are welcome to join in with members on out scheduled social boating events.

Perched on the waters edge in Williamstown the club has expansive views of Melbourne, if you are a kindred club member, book
a temporary berth or just come and enjoy a meal or drink in our clubhouse and then explore the historical port of Williamstown.

The Members Bar on the first floor is open to club members, their guests and kindred club members only. Members are asked to book early to avoid disappointment.

Saturday the 4th of October saw the RVMYC’s 110th Opening Day bathed in sunshine and held in the newly completed clubhouse.

The bureau predicted a slight breeze which then was amended to strong northerly, which had no effect on the number of boats out on the water - 42 vessels took part in the sail past this year.

Over 250 people attended the RVMYC Open Day, the day began with the Williamstown Pipe Band marching into the grassed fore court past the newly installed flagpole, as the Williamstown Historical Re-enactment Society setup the ubiquitous cannon ready to frighten the pants off assembled guests.

This year the long awaited clubhouse gave us the perfect backdrop to showcase the club’s commitment to the community and our boating heritage. Guest and officials were complimentary of our achievement especially when told that it was achieved within 18 months!

To mark the occasion we had the privilege and honour of having Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO (Ret’d) to officiate our ceremony. Admiral Doolan spoke of the special relationship the club has with the Navy and how, as custodians of the club values we all have a responsibility to encourage respect of the sea and remember those who have come before us.

The club committee has awarded Artistic Catering to run the club’s function and catering requirements for the next 5 years.

Artistic Catering has been setting the benchmark across Australia for all types of catering for the last 15 years. They were the outstanding choice from the contenders applying to run our new clubhouse.

Artistic have assured that our food will always be fresh, always flavoursome and always creative.

By the end of the month we will revert back to the Club’s usual opening times of Wednesday and Friday from 5.00pm, Saturday (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) and Sunday (Breakfast and Lunch), the intention is to open the club bar 7 days a week so please stay tuned for that announcement.
